Well, the second day is over, and wow - the drive over the moors was awesome. From the switchbacks of the A170 up Sutton Bank to the sweeping turns and seemingly endless climbs of the road from Keldholme to Castleton, the views were amazing. Since we started at a more reasonable time and had less distance to cover, we managed to stop and take a number of pictures as you can see.
Here's a quick shot from Sutton Bank, where you climb up into the Moors. On the plateau to the left, there's a Gliding Club, and tow-planes were constantly taking off with gliders attached, circling overhead and coming back in to land.
We stopped at a pub in the beautiful village of Hutton-le-Hole for lunch:
This is the fantastic road out of Keldholme, through Hutton-le-Hole to Castleton. Surprisingly there don't seem to be sheep in this picture, but rest assured there are hundreds along this road and they verge on suicidal!
From the Moors, we headed to Middlesborough, crossing the Tees on what has to be the oddest bridge in the country:
The trip out of Middlesborough was largely uneventful and we arrived in Newcastle just after 5:30pm:
Today, we're heading up to Edinburgh which should be quite interesting!
