Day 3 - From Newcastle across the border to Edinburgh

Day 3 was a bit of a castle day. Nothing planned, but we passed two really impressive castles right next to our route, so suffice it to say there was plenty of stopping and snapping away.

We left Newcastle about lunchtime, grabbing some lunch on the quayside at Blyth.

From there we headed up the Northumberland coast, stopping briefly to take a few pictures from the coast road.

We then headed slightly inland and found ourselves in the little village of Warkworth. You can't miss this village, really, with an imposing ruined Castle bearing down on it from on high.

However, it's also really quite picturesque, being set along a river.

Moving on, we found an even more imposing castle bearing down on us a few miles up the road in Bamburgh. Another lovely village, we decided to stop for a spot of cream tea :)

After that, we motored on up the A1 across the scottish border:

We've had a pretty interesting day, the driving was more relaxed but still nice roads; even the A1 is a nice road when you get into Scotland. But the highlight of the day has to be the visit to Mary King's Close in Edinburgh itself - stunning to think of how the city would have looked in the 16th century.

Even given that, the fact that France lost to Scotland 1-0, Wales beat someone half decent 5-2 and England won 3-0 against Russia did run it a close second!

Martin, those pictures look very calm and tranquil.. I bet you're enjoying your time off! We're having more troubles here with planets not aligning :'(

I've no idea what the stones were, I just saw them from the top of a sand dune :)

Kitty, you might find turning round three times then hopping on one leg works. I have to align the planets to get the alarm to work on my car too :(
